An impressive set of gold medals from Hans Erni
Lot 4561
SWITZERLAND. Schweizerische Eidgenossenschaft (Swiss Confederation). 1848-present. Lot of 4 Medals (Gold, 4 medals of 33 mm, 127.91 g), four elements: Aeolus, Pan, Helios and Poseidon. By Hans Erni, 1977. In original box. Virtually as struck.

This set of gold medals was crafted by the Swiss painter, graphic designer, engraver, and sculptor, Hans Erni (1909-2015), on behalf of the Stiftung für die Erhaltung Luzernischen Kulturgutes and the Verkehrhaus der Schweiz. The proceeds generated from selling the medals went to the construction of the Hans Erni-museum in Lucerne, Switzerland. Curiously, Hans Erni appears to have struggled with the Greek alphabet, as he made spelling errors on two medals, namely ΛAΦ instead of ΔAΦ on his Daphne-medal, and ΠΦΣ instead of ΠOΣ on his medal showing Poseidon!
